Description
A special population specialist is a fitness professional who creates safe and effective exercise programs for individuals with chronic and/or temporary health conditions and/or other unique needs. These special populations can include seniors, and people with diseases like Diabetes or Parkinson’s.

Learning Objectives
By the end of this program, the learner will be able to:
- Understand pathophysiology, symptoms, and functional limitations associated with common special populations
- Explain how chronic disease, disability, aging, and medical conditions affect exercise response and performance
- Conduct comprehensive health screening and pre-participation assessments (e.g., PAR-Q+, health history, functional movement)
- Identify absolute and relative contraindications to exercise participation
- Classify clients according to risk levels and determine when medical clearance or referral is required
- Design safe, effective, and individualized exercise programs for special populations, including (But not limited to): [PLEASE SEE THE COURSE CONTENT]
- Older adults
- Metabolic disorders (diabetes, obesity)
- Neurological and cognitive conditions
- Recognize adverse signs and symptoms requiring program modification or cessation
- Practice within defined scope of practice for fitness professionals working with special populations.
Prerequisite(s)
• Should be able to read, understand and write basic English
• Should be over 18 years of age at the time of enrollment
• Must have Aadhar card
• Must have access to a tablet and/or laptop or smartphone
