FSSA Certified Personal Trainers are exercise professionals who, using an individualized approach, assess, motivate, educate and train clients regarding their personal health and fitness needs. They design safe and effective exercise programs, provide the guidance to help clients achieve their personal health/fitness goals.

A FSSA CPT [Certified Personal Trainer] is a gold standard certification for all trainers/coaches/exercise professionals allowing them to work in any modality in India and/or abroad.

Recognizing their own area of expertise, a personal trainer will refer clients to other health care professionals when appropriate.

Learning Objectives

A FSSA Certified Personal Trainer must be able to:

• Understand the structure and function of major muscle groups, joints, and body systems
• Explain the principles of biomechanics, movement patterns, and kinesiology
• Identify how the body responds and adapts to exercise
• Conduct comprehensive fitness assessments, including body composition, strength, and cardiovascular endurance
• Apply risk-screening protocols (e.g., PAR-Q) and recognize contraindications to exercise
• Develop safe, effective, and individualized training plans based on client goals, fitness levels, and limitations
• Demonstrate correct form and technique for resistance, cardiovascular, flexibility, and functional training exercises
• Provide clear verbal cues, regression/progression options, and hands-on corrections
• Ensure client safety and proper use of equipment
• Use motivational strategies and communication techniques to support client adherence
• Identify barriers to exercise and implement behavioral change models (e.g., SMART goals, stages of change)
• Build strong professional relationships based on trust and respect
• Follow industry standards, legal requirements, and ethical practices
• Respond appropriately to emergencies, including CPR/AED use
• Provide safe training environments and enforce proper warm-up/cool-down procedures
• Understand basic business principles for personal training (marketing, client retention, scheduling, record-keeping)
• Demonstrate professionalism and commitment to continuing education.

Prerequisite(s)

• Should be able to read, understand and write basic English
• Should be over 18 years of age at the time of enrollment
• Must have Aadhar card
• Must have access to a tablet and/or laptop or smartphone
